Buying an electric car? Is its insurance different from a petrol car's? Mostly, no. The difference is the battery, its most expensive part. Say a new battery costs six lakh rupees. If an accident damages it and it's replaced, the policy can deduct fifty per cent depreciation, even if your car is new, so you could pay three lakh. And some zero-depreciation add-ons leave the battery out. If water gets into the battery, or a short circuit damages it, the repair may not be paid. Some insurance companies offer battery protection, an add-on at an extra premium, that can pay for this damage, and it may also cover the battery's depreciation. When a battery wears out with age, car insurance doesn't pay; that's what the carmaker's battery warranty is for. Ask your advisor to check if your zero-depreciation add-on includes the battery, and whether battery protection suits you.

## What this is not

**ZaapIn is a technology company.** We do not sell or solicit insurance. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or recommended by IRDAI, any examination body, or any insurer.

**The videos explain insurance.** They do not name a product, quote a price, or tell anyone what to buy. That is the advisor's work, and the whole point is to send customers to their advisor for it.
