Had a Car Accident? What to Do First

After a car accident, get emergency help if anyone is injured. Inform the police promptly if anyone is hurt or someone else's property is damaged. When safe, take photos of the scene and damage, and exchange details with any other driver involved. Inform your insurance company promptly and ask about towing if the car is unsafe to drive. Do not start non-urgent repairs until the company has assessed the damage and approved them; repairs done first could affect your claim.
